Welcome to Render & Roots. These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of this website and your purchase of Render & Roots products — whether ordered through this website, through our Facebook or Instagram pages, through Facebook Messenger, or in person at farmers markets and events. By using this website or purchasing our products, you agree to these Terms.

1. Who We Are

Render & Roots is a small-batch skincare business handcrafting tallow-based products in Utica, Illinois. You can reach us any time via Facebook Messenger or by email at support@renderandroots.shop.

2. Our Products

All Render & Roots products are handcrafted in small batches using grass-fed tallow, herbal infusions, essential oils, and other natural ingredients. Because our products are handmade from whole, natural ingredients:

  • Color, texture, and scent may vary slightly between batches. This is normal and reflects the nature of real ingredients, not a defect.
  • Tallow-based products are temperature-sensitive. They may soften or melt in transit or storage above approximately 75°F (24°C) and may firm up or develop a grainy texture when chilled. This does not affect safety or effectiveness — texture can typically be restored by letting the product return to room temperature (or briefly chilling, then stirring). Softening or texture changes caused by heat during shipping or storage are not defects and are not eligible for refund on that basis alone.
  • Our products are cosmetics intended for external use only. They are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or medical condition, and statements on this website have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration.

3. Allergies & Skin Sensitivity

Please read before first use: our products contain rendered beef tallow, beeswax, herbal infusions, and essential oils. If you have known allergies to any of these, or have sensitive skin, apply a small amount to a patch of skin (such as the inner forearm) and wait 24 hours before broader use. Discontinue use immediately if irritation occurs. Keep products away from the eyes. If you are pregnant, nursing, or using products on infants, consult your healthcare provider first — some essential oils are not recommended in these situations.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Render & Roots is not liable for individual allergic reactions or sensitivities where ingredients have been accurately disclosed. A full ingredient list is available on every product label and on request.

4. Ordering & Payment

Orders may be placed through this website, through Facebook Messenger, or in person at our market booth. By placing an order you agree to provide accurate, complete information. We reserve the right to refuse or cancel any order — including for suspected fraud, pricing or listing errors, or product unavailability. If we cancel an order you have already paid for, you will receive a full refund.

Prices are listed in U.S. dollars and may change at any time without notice; changes do not affect orders already placed and paid. In the event of an obvious pricing error, we may cancel the order and notify you before charging or after refunding you in full.

You must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority in your state) to place an order.

5. Shipping, Pickup & Delivery

  • Processing: orders are typically processed within 1–3 business days. Because products are made in small batches, occasional items may require additional time; we will let you know.
  • Shipping: we ship within the United States. Delivery typically takes 3–7 business days after processing. Risk of loss passes to you upon our delivery to the carrier; however, if an order arrives damaged, contact us within 7 days with photos and we will make it right with a replacement or refund.
  • Warm weather: during hot months we may hold shipments, use heat packaging, or recommend local pickup to protect product quality.
  • Local pickup: free pickup is available at our farmers market booth and by arrangement in the Utica, IL area.

6. Returns & Refunds

We want you to be happy with every jar. If something isn't right, contact us within 30 days of receiving your order and we will work with you on a replacement, exchange, store credit, or refund.

  • For hygiene and safety reasons, opened or used skincare products cannot be returned for resale. Depending on the issue, we may offer a replacement or partial/full refund without requiring a return.
  • Unopened products in original condition may be returned for a refund of the purchase price. Return shipping is the customer's responsibility unless the return is due to our error.
  • Products damaged in transit are replaced or refunded in full — send us photos within 7 days of delivery.
  • Please contact us before returning any item.

7. Farmers Market & In-Person Sales

These Terms also apply to purchases made at farmers markets, pop-ups, and other in-person events. In-person sales are final at the point of sale, except that our 30-day satisfaction policy above still applies — reach out via Messenger or email and we'll take care of you at our next market or by mail.

8. Website & Content

All content on this website — text, photographs, product descriptions, logos, and design — is the property of Render & Roots and may not be copied, reproduced, or distributed without written permission. You may share links to this site and our social media content through normal platform sharing features.

Educational content on this site (for example, information about tallow and skin compatibility) is provided for general information only and is not medical advice.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law: our products and this website are provided "as is"; we disclaim all warranties not expressly stated in these Terms; and our total liability for any claim arising from a purchase is limited to the amount you paid for the product giving rise to the claim. Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability that cannot be limited or excluded under applicable law, including applicable consumer-protection rights.

10. Governing Law & Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Before pursuing any formal dispute, you agree to contact us first and give us a good-faith opportunity to resolve the issue — in our experience, we can almost always make it right. Any dispute that cannot be resolved informally shall be brought in the state or federal courts located in Illinois.

11. Severability & Changes

If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full effect. We may update these Terms from time to time; changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Your continued use of the website or purchases after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
